报告题目:Thermal Stratification in Geophysical Fluid Flows

报告摘要:The two-dimensional incompressible Boussinesq equations have been routinely used to model systems across atremendous range of length and time scales frommicrofluidics and biophysics to geodynamics and astrophysics. It plays an important role in the study of atmospheric and oceanographic turbulence as well as other situations where rotation and stratification play a dominant role. In addition to its own physical background, the model is also known for its close connection with fundamental models in mathematical fluid mechanics, such as the incompressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations. In a special situation, the vortex formulation of this two-dimensional model in Eulerian coordinates is formally identical to the vortex formulation of the three-dimensional Euler equations in cylindrical coordinates for axisymmetric swirling fluid flows, which makes it a tremendously rich area for mathematical investigations. The theme of this talk is oriented around the rigorous mathematical demonstration of one of the common phenomena in geophysical fluid flows: thermal (vertical) stratification. In addition, some recent results on the stability of dynamic shear flow will be reported. Moreover, some open problems and numerical experiments will be discussed.
报告人简介:赵昆,男,40岁,博士生导师,主要研究领域为流体力学中的偏微分方程、生物数学中的偏微分方程,2004年中国科学技术大学本硕连读,2009年美国Georgia Institute of Technology博士研究生毕业,2010年美国Mathematical Biosciences 博士后出站,2011年美国University of Iowa访学一年, 2012年进入美国杜兰大学工作,2018年晋升为杜兰大学副教授。自博士毕业以来,在国际数学顶尖级期刊上如《Journal of differential equation》, 《Journal of Mathematical Fluid Mechanics》,《Discrete and Continuous Dynamical System》 , 《SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis》公开发表论文58篇,被SCI收录58篇,主持西蒙斯资助数学家项目1项,获得LA BoR Research Competitiveness Subprogram 项目1项,获得MBI Eearly Career资助项目1项,获得杜兰大学 CoR Research Fellowship Office of Provost项目1项,长期担任《Journal of European Mathematical Society》、《Journal of Difffferential Equations》 、《SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis》、《Nonlinearity》等30多种SCI杂志审稿专家,2015年被评为《Journal of differential equation》、《Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Application》等杂志有突出贡献的审稿专家,现已培养博士后3人出站,8人博士毕业,30人硕士毕业,现为美国数学学会、美国SIAM, 美国 MAA委员。
